Production Shift Manager
The Converting Shift Manager will work alongside their team on a 2-3-2 schedule in a busy manufacturing environment. The Shift Manager is a proven and effective leader with extensive knowledge and technical expertise in operating and managing converting operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives a safety culture within the plant assisting the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager in determining safety program priorities.
- Supervises, Coordinates, monitors, and manages the facility housekeeping program.
- Manages the operator training and qualification program for their perspective team.
- Creates and updates training SOPs/documentation, as required, for all converting assets within the plant and communicates changes.
- Works with the Safety Manager to establish, review, and update safety training material and assists in conducting safety training for their team.
- Trains and mentors Production Supervisors in converting operations and helps them build strong leadership and communication skills.
- Tracks and manages all team members’ performance.
- Executes continuous improvement plans using lean principles and concepts.
- Ensures the effective management of the quality program by ensuring the only the highest quality product is produced and shipped to the customer.
- Leads and supports trials and the qualification of new raw materials and/or production supplies.
- Provides technical support and trains personnel during line changeovers ensuring efficient and reliable startups.
- Identifies and supports equipment upgrades/process changes that result in safety, quality, delivery and cost enhancements.
- Reviews production schedule and when necessary, provides guidance and support to Production Supervisors in determining priorities.
- Conducts quality assurance checks and leaders standard work to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Assists maintenance with downtime planning and in the identification of equipment runnability concerns/equipment improvements.
- Manages all team labor scheduling. Works with Production Supervisors and other Production Managers to ensure vacations and absences are covered to maximize plant productivity and minimize downtime due to labor shortages.
- Communicate with other managers to develop/update objectives for the facility.
- Evaluates the performance of all team production personnel.
- Conducts investigations for all accidents and investigation on their perspective team and report findings.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree optional but preferred OR equivalent experience in related field.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles - training in these areas is a PLUS.
- Must be a self-starter and be able to successfully execute initiatives with minimal guidance and accomplish stated goals.
- Able to take direction and strike a balance with providing strong leadership.
- Proven success leading and motivating employees through consistent, effective and fair methods.
- Regularly supervises up to 25+ employees, including such tasks as hiring, performance evaluations; assigning work; merit increases, promotions, and reclassifications; discipline and discharge; and complaint resolution.
- Success in training, developing and providing direction to staff.
- Must always lead by example and be a role model to the leads and operators on the plant floor while treating people with respect, dignity and professionalism.
- Acts in a firm, fair and consistent manner.
- Experience with hiring, training, and problem solving; able to lead, coach and mentor others.
- Demonstrate decision making and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Good interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships at various levels
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as needed, particularly during high volume periods, to ensure that departmental objectives are accomplished.
