Limited Energy (Sound & Comm) Apprenticeship

MINIMUM PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS 

A minimum of 17 years of age in order to apply, and a minimum of 18 years at the time of acceptance into the program

1. GPA or GED requirement; ONE of the following:

• Graduate from a high school with a 2.00 cumulative GPA or higher
• Associate degree or higher
• Qualifying GED score: 
• Prior to 2002: 255
• 1/1/02 - 12/31/13: 2550
• After 1/1/14: 600 

2. Algebra requirement; ONE of the following:

• One year of high school algebra with a minimum grade of C
• College algebra or higher-level college mathematics course with a minimum grade of C
• Current math placement test results from a college indicating a placement level at the post-secondary level
• GED completed after 1/1/14, with a minimum score of 150 on the math section of the test
• Documentation of successful completion of the online SkillsPrep Tech Math course: www.skillsprep.org 

3. Qualifying score on the NJATC aptitude test, to be scheduled by the training center

Veterans may apply to our apprenticeship programs outside of a public application opening through the Direct Application Process.

Steps to Apply (When Applications Are Closed)

1. Watch the Information Orientation: View the orientation video at www.nietc.org/applicants/apply/orientation-video/.
2. Email Your Military DD-214:
1. Send your documentation in PDF format to applications@nietc.org.
2. A note stating that you are a veteran, specifying which apprenticeship program you wish to apply for.
3. Request an Application Fee Waiver (if applicable):
4. In the same email, you may request a fee waiver by attaching documentation that your income is below 185% of federal poverty guidelines (e.g., a copy of your SNAP card).
3. Account Creation:
1. Office staff will create an account for you to begin the application process.
4. Submit Your Online Application: The NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center will notify applicants by email if they qualify or do not qualify. If the application qualifies, the applicant will take the aptitude test at the training center the month after we received their application. Example: qualifying January applicants will test in February. If the application does not qualify, we will email an explanation of the non-qualifying reason.

2. Payment: $35 application fee (debit/credit card), unless a fee waiver has been obtained. Note: There is no fee for the Limited Residential Electrician Apprenticeship program.
3. Transcripts: PDF copies of transcripts showing you meet the minimum educational requirements.
4. Military DD-214: PDF Format.
5. Aptitude Test:
1. Office staff will schedule your aptitude test at our Training Center, typically for the following month.
2. After passing the aptitude test, office staff will schedule you for the next available interview at our Training Center. This is typically scheduled within one month but may take longer during periods of slower work activity.
6. Interview:
1. Attend your interview at our Training Center.
7. Placement on Ranked List:
1. After your interview, you will be merged onto the existing ranked list according to your interview score
