Wireman and Teledata Installer Apprenticeship Opportunities
The Electrical Trades Center proudly trains the next generation of central Ohio IBEW members, who work as electricians or teledata installer-technicians. Discover the difference of a world class education provided by the Electrical Trades Center at our state-of-the-art training center.
The main responsibility of an electrician is to connect a power system to an outside power source and ensure the power is distributed throughout a project, as directed. Work includes installing conduit; running wire; installation of electrical systems, motors, outlets, fixtures, etc.; and maintenance, upkeep and repair of all electrical systems and wiring.
Installer-technicians typically install low voltage systems, which consists of video, data and audio or voice systems like telephones, internet connections, intercoms and alarm systems. They might also run fiber optic cable or coaxial cable, which are used for computers and operating controls for machinery. This type of work is crucial to the functionality of office buildings, schools, hospitals, residential structures and other buildings where instant communication and connectivity is necessary.

Instead of taking on the financial burden of other career training programs or further education, consider an apprenticeship with the Electrical Trades Center. Men or women, regardless of race, who want to apply to The Electrical Trades Center apprenticeship programs can do so online, in-person by stopping at the ETC and filling out an application or by calling 614-463-5282 for the application packet. Please note, there is an application fee.
Requirements
Individuals seeking to become an apprentice must:
Be 18 years or older at the time of indenture*
Complete the application
Be a high school graduate or GED equivalent
Provide an official high school transcript or High School Equivalence Transcript (HSE)
Provide an official post-secondary transcript (if applicable)
Have passed an algebra course (either one credit year at the secondary level, three semester hours at a post-secondary institution or ETA Tech math course)
Provide a copy of your birth certificate
Must have the legal right to work in the U.S.
Must be able to understand written instructions in American English
Must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English
Submit a $50 application fee
How to Begin
The first step in the application process is to create an online account through our website and then log in to your account to begin the application. After paying the $50 application fee, you have 60 days to complete your application file.
Application Steps
You must complete all application steps within your 60-day application window. This includes completing the online application, required acknowledgments, the GAN Personal Experience Form, and required document uploads.
