RN Quality and Safety Nurse Specialist

Job Summary and Qualifications
The Quality & Safety Nurse Specialist uses a comprehensive view to identify accreditation, safety and risk vulnerabilities of the organization and subsequently leads multidisciplinary teams in implementing improvements resulting in standardized practices, error reduction and error prevention.
- Supports survey readiness by maintaining a working knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Utilizes knowledge of quality, risk, and performance improvement to assess the organization for safety issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Identifies opportunities for appropriate process improvements.
- Serves as a PI liaison, resource and mentor to staff at all levels of the organization.
- Assists teams in establishing and implementing performance improvement initiatives.
- Utilizes performance improvement and Lean tools and techniques to coach improvement teams.
- Promotes teamwork, communication and collaboration among team members and other stakeholders.
- Uses appropriate meeting management and performance improvement tools and techniques to achieve group objectives.
- Ensures team activities are reported to the appropriate stakeholders for review and follow up.
- Facilitates information sharing of evidence-based practice from one clinical setting and/or department to another.
- Facilitates medical staff peer review activities including monitoring and evaluation of patterns and trends.
- Provides support to the medical staff leadership, Medical Directors, and committees in peer review and performance improvement functions.
- Serves as a liaison and resource to the Nursing organization for performance improvement activities.
- Assists the Executive Director Quality and Safety in designing and refining tools and mechanisms for the Performance Improvement Program.
- Accurately interprets and abstracts clinical information from various sources, including electronic medical records.
- Utilizes appropriate analytical tools and techniques to assist in the aggregation, analysis and presentation of data.
- Uses various electronic databases for data abstraction, storage and data analysis.
- Presents findings and provides recommendations to stakeholders for consideration of additional improvement action as needed.
- Provides feedback to the Executive Director of Quality and Safety regarding the need for education resulting from performance improvement activities.
- Provides education, as necessary, to interested parties on performance improvement or Lean initiatives.
- Coordinates medical staff focus reviews as needed.
- Prepares and forwards clinical quality data to Medical Staff Services for the purpose of Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) and reappointment.
- Conducts in depth case reviews and assists in facilitating root cause analyses as needed.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to performance improvement in assigned settings.
- Participates in appropriate role in disaster and fire drills, fires, and other emergency situations.
- Exercises care in the use and operation of equipment and reference materials.
- Ensures routine maintenance to maintain continued functioning of equipment.
- Maintains work area in a safe and organized manner.
