*** ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOCIATE ***The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2,000 square milewatershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.New York City has approximately 140,000 catch basins, 114,000 hydrants, 90,000 valves, 14 gatehouses, 3 reservoirs, 68 groundwater wells, a 100 million gallon underground storage tank and 7,000 miles each of both sanitary sewers and water mains. The responsibility of maintaining these vast networks falls under the Department of Environmental Protections Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO).The primary responsibilities of the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations are the operation, maintenance and protection of the Citys drinking water and wastewater collection (sewer) systems; the protection of adjacent waterways; and the development and protection of the Departments Capital Water and Sewer Design Program. The Bureau also approves and inspects water and sewer connections performed by licensed plumbers and/or authorized contractors. In addition, the Bureau has overall responsibility for the approval and inspection of all public and private construction projects which could impact on the Citys water or sewer systems.The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations is seeking to hire a candidate for the title of Principal Administrative Associate II in the Division of Construction Management, Inspection Unit. As a Principal Administrative Associate II, selected candidate will perform responsible supervisory and administrative work:- Assist and supervise Clerical staff in the Scheduling unit. Review and monitor status of completeness of water and sewer signed offs.- Train Clerical personnel and develop standards for clerical office staff procedures.- Help to process inspection bookings. Keep Plumbing unit population informed of procedures and ensure inspections are booked correctly.- Monitor clerical staff and ensure all errors are kept to a minimum. Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or 2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above; or 3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above; 4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 years.
