Compliance Officer of NY CREATES
Employment is with the Research Foundation for The State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) The Research Foundation for The State University of New York (SUNY) is the largest, most comprehensive university-connected research foundation in the country. The Research Foundation manages SUNY's research portfolio, providing essential sponsored programs administration and innovation support services to SUNY faculty, students and staff performing research in areas including life sciences and medicine; engineering and nanotechnology; physical sciences and energy; social sciences; arts and humanities; and computer and information sciences. This is a new position for the recently formed non-profit, New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering and Science Corporation (d/b/a “NY CREATES”), a member corporation whose members are The Research Foundation for the State University of New York (the “Research Foundation”) and SUNY Polytechnic Institution Foundation, Inc. NY CREATES seeks to advance high-tech research, development and commercialization opportunities through the acquisition, construction and management of state-of-the-art facilities and programs, while promoting economic development, education and workforce training throughout New York. NY CREATES is the sole member of Fuller Road Management Corporation (“FRMC”) (a 501c25 not-for-profit corporation) and Fort Schuyler Management Corporation (“FSMC”) (a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation).
The successful candidate will create, implement, maintain, monitor and enforce a comprehensive program of compliance with statutes, rules, regulations, case law, policies, ethical standards and best practices concerning annual reporting, board governance, procurement, grant reporting, ethics and other statutory and regulatory requirements for all three corporations, NY CREATES, FRMC and FSMC. The successful candidate also will: (1) manage a compliance program that safeguards the corporation, its stakeholders, customers, reputation and assets by identifying and managing risks, liabilities, and threats to the achievement of its business objectives; (2) serve as the coordinator of the risk management and internal control programs; (3) provide legal and strategic advice especially focused on areas of legal risk management, ethics, security, and governance; (4) conduct periodic risk assessments and develop response plans to address identified risks; and (5) conduct training programs for directors, officers and employees of the Corporations to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures of the Corporations.
The Compliance Officer will regularly report to the Board of Directors of each corporation on his or her activities and assessments and may attend Board Committee meetings as requested. The successful candidate will collaborate with all stakeholders including The State University of New York (“SUNY”), the Research Foundation and Empire State Development Corporation.

Requirements
Education Level Required: J. D. or LLB from accredited law school or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization; admitted to New York State Bar, in good standing.
Relevant Experience Required: Minimum of 10 years of progressively more complex legal, technical and managerial experience, preferably with corporate in-house, law firm and/or government experience.
Knowledge Required: Substantial and demonstrated experience with compliance programs. Compliance and/or Ethics certification preferred. Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills. Position demands exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and independent follow-through as well as strong interpersonal skills and team orientation.
